About

My name is Matthew L. Kaskavitch and I’m a 23 year-old undergraduate at the University of Wisconsin – Stout in Menomonie, WI. I’m studying Information Communication Technologies with a media technology emphasis. I grew up in a small city of 100,000 people located in central Wisconsin called Wausau. (Yes, the city from the insurance commercials) I graduated from D.C. Everest Senior High School in 2004.
When I arrived at UW-Stout I knew that I wanted to make an impact before I left. Three months into my schooling I teamed up with another ICT student and we founded a web 2.0 social media news organization called StoutMedia. I became the vice president and held that position for a year and a half. The organization still thrives as of today and works with a $40,000 dollar budget. It is very rewarding seeing something I started flourish, especially as new and societal shifting as new media is.
StoutMedia really opened many doors for me. I was hired as a web consultant/programmer for the University, I was invited to participate in a ‘invite only’ visioning session for UW-Stout and have given many presentations to our Universities Chancellor, Charles W. Sorensen, on how we can shape technology here at Stout. I currently sit on our social networking committee which looks to investigate how we can leverage that trend to help various University departments. I also founded and currently oversee a student web developer committee. The committee consists of all students who work in any fashion on University web pages in any department on campus.
When I’m not in front of a computer screen you might find me working/hanging around a sport which I truly enjoy, ice hockey. I work in our Sports Information Department here on campus and produce/broadcast play-by-play commentary for our men’s hockey team. Our broadcasts are streamed over the Internet live and cater to hundreds of viewers per game. I really enjoy what I do in that office and keep pushing forward to advance the technology in those broadcasts.

I’m often asked, “What do you plan on doing once you graduate?” That’s a great question! I have a broad range of experience and interests around technology and new media. Wherever I end up, I want to have the chance to make an impact on a global scale and shape the use of IT for generations to come.
